Today is Inauguration Day!
At noon today, Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States.
Here are a few ideas for teaching and celebrating this significant event.
- Have your child write a letter to President Obama, including things that your child would like for the President to focus on during his term.
- One of the Inauguration events is the Inaugural Parade. Have your child draw or “create” a float for the President. Use a shoe box and craft materials to design this mini-float.
- Have children plan and help prepare an Inaugural meal. If they were the President, what meal would they request and why?
- Use the Internet to explore past Inaugural addresses and events. Read and discuss some of the most significant speeches such as John F. Kennedy’s famous first speech.
How will you be teaching your children about this significant day?
