Hello, Everyone!
I am excited that Blissfully Domestic has invited me to write a regular column here at Homeschool Bliss. My passion is teaching reading and spelling to children, and I look forward to sharing ideas with you!
Homeschooling has been an amazing journey for my family. My daughter is now in college, studying culinary arts. She plans on being a food writer someday and hones her skills by writing columns for two newsletters. My son is in his sophomore year of high school, and he is developing his own voice as a technology writer.
Teaching children to read and write is an awesome responsibility, and I love taking on that challenge. My years as a literacy tutor and curriculum developer has shown me that there is no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to teaching kids, and I enjoy the exchange of ideas the Internet allows. Stay tuned for articles on topics such as:
- developing reading comprehension
- great books to enjoy with your children
- spelling rules worth teaching
- vocabulary development
- and much more!
My goal is to give you practical tips and hands-on activities to help you as you homeschool your children. Enjoy!

I am really looking forward to your column because I love the topic of reading for my kids. It is such an important skill to learn because it helps you in so many areas of life. I just came across an interesting article yesterday about a recent academic study which studied the effects between household order and kids’ reading ability. I already wrote a blog post on it if you are interested in checking it out click on my name for a direct link.
@Taylor: That does look like an interesting study. Thanks for sharing it!
This is a really find for me as I have just begun homeschooling my 7 year old having taken him out of school. His biggest issue is reading and I am in need of some great tips!
It is wonderful isn’t it that reading is so universal – here I am in New Zealand reading your tips!
@Madeleine: Glad you found the column! Homeschooling is a great adventure!
