Visual Mnemonics are a great way to remember information (especially for visual learners) – and fun enough for even the little ones.

A Visual Mnemonic is a memory system that uses pictures to help you recall information. Here are some to try on the kids.

• A Bactrian camel’s back is shaped like a ‘B’ whilst a Dromedary’s is shaped like a ‘D’.
• The Spanish for Suitcase is Maleta – imagine ‘my letter’ in your suitcase.
• The longest river is the Nile – imagine throwing a ‘nail’ into the river and watching it float miles and miles (or, if your children are very literal – watching it sinking down!!).
• The largest butterfly is Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing – imagine a very stately Queen Alexandra (with crown) flying on massive Birdwings to catch a huge butterfly for her collection.

Have fun making up your own visual mnemonic stories – the wilder and more colorful the pictures you can imagine, the better everyone will remember the fact.
