We have 2 computers in our home that are typically in places where my 2 yo can get at the keyboards: my son’s computer on a desk in the living room and my laptop, which is generally attached to my lap. There is always a child wanting to play on the computer too. We all know how much the little ones enjoy banging on the keyboard (and my child is not satisfied with the “old keyboard on the floor” trick anymore!), so here are some neat programs that can entertain your child and protect your work.
Toddler Friendly Computer Programs for Little Ones
BabySplat is “donationware” software (free and a donation is appreciated) that creates shapes and sounds on the screen as keys are pressed. As for “protecting your work,” the web site does not give much information but I’m assuming the idea is to run this program when you’ll be stepping away from the computer to prevent your babe from sending an email you haven’t finished writing yet.
Toddler Keys is a free program that allows you to lock your computer keyboard, CD drive doors and power-off button. When the keyboard is tapped the monitor will display images (which you choose) and play sounds.
BabySplat and Toddler Keys are for the PC, and I found two similar programs for the Mac that can be downloaded here.
