Wedding planning is a huge undertaking. The average bride spends about 6 full work weeks planning out every detail of their wedding! This can be a lot of pressure, especially if you already live a hectic lifestyle. Where will you find the time to plan and organize the most special day of your life?
Time to call in the reserves! A wedding planner can take a lot of the hassle out of planning your wedding day. Her job is to ensure that you get your dream wedding, while finding the best deals and the right vendors for your wedding.
How do you know if a wedding planner is right for you? Think about these key questions to determine if you could use a wedding planner’s services.
- Do you have the time to plan the wedding yourself? If your wedding date is still a long way off, you might be able to plan your own wedding easily. However, no matter what the date, if your schedule doesn’t leave a lot of openings to contact wedding vendors, you might want to hand over the reigns to a wedding planner.
- Can you communicate your needs clearly with others? If you have a hard time explaining your dream wedding to your mother, how can you expect to communicate well with a host of wedding vendors? Spelling it out to your wedding planner can save a wide variety of problems later on.
- Do you feel the need to control everything yourself? Many brides cannot imagine letting a wedding planner handle the details of their wedding. Yet you can still maintain creative control, while having a wedding planner make the necessary connections. You should never feel pressure to change your ideal wedding, from your planner or anyone else.

I was blessed with the ability to hire a wedding planner for my wedding last September and it was one of the best decisions we made. The week of my wedding in Virginia Beach, Hurricane Hanna was threatening to crash our wedding. This meant we had to alter a lot of things, but it really wasn’t an additional stress for me, since our wedding planner already had a “hurricane backup plan” ready to go!
If you are able to work with a wedding planner I highly recommend it! It’s important to be as specific as possible with your vision for your wedding, and then you have to be able to trust that she can take care of the rest. Also, make sure that she comes with good references.
After all the planning, when you finally reach the week of your wedding, you will be so glad you did. Instead of worrying about all of the last minute details, you are more freed up to be with your family, friends, and most importantly, your husband-to-be!
