I don’t know about you but for me, the best part of a wedding is the cake! I have a deep, abiding affection for wedding cake. Second to eating wedding cakes is gawking at wedding cakes and WE tv’s second season of Amazing Wedding Cakes makes wedding cake gawking a national past time!

Wedding cake design has come a loooooong way since even when I was young a bride a mere fourteen years ago! Yes, this our cake. Heart shaped layers, plastic column tiers, ivory buttercream with peach colored roses, and I think there is a plastic pearl strand around the edges. And the topper? All together now…awwwww! How precious!

Now this cake? Wow! This is from Merci Beaucoup Cakes in Los Angles, one of the bakeries highlighted in this season’s Amazing Wedding Cakes from WE tv.

At the last minute the bride changes the design, ordering butter cream flowers instead of sugar flowers. Giving Marc a chance to show off his flower handiwork and butter cream expertise, the garden cake has an elegance about it that hearkens back to an old-fashioned art form.

Doesn’t that look, well, amazing?

The wedding cake designers, and yes they are designers not just bakers, push the envelope when it comes to unique and even gravity defying cakes. Another of my favorites is the Sweeties Candy Box cake from Cake Girls in Chicago:

Oh, yes they did! Unbelievable!

So, if you’re a fanatical cake gawker like I am, season two of Amazing Wedding Cakes premiers this Sunday, June 7 at 10 pm/9 central on WE tv. It’s part of the “We Go Bridal” Bonzana featuring the Top 10 Bridezilla Moments at 8 pm and the premiere of the sixth season of Bridezillas at 9 pm.
