I received an e-mail from my mother earlier this week and much to my surprise and delight, she wanted to submit a “Brag On Him” post about her husband…my father! Way to go Dad!
I don’t like taking myself places. I prefer to be driven – by my chauffeur. He came with the car. It’s true – I’m spoiled.
Recently, I made plans to share lunch with an old friend whom I had not seen for over 2 years. Good plan – except that the meeting was to take place on a weekday at a location which would require me to drive in excess of an hour away from home and on I-4, no less! I took a deep breath and said to myself – it’s worth it – I’ll do it! I shared the news with my husband. His response was brief and simple – that’s good, he said.
The evening before my planned reunion, I confessed to my husband that I was looking forward to seeing my friend tomorrow, but, SO not looking forward to the actual trip and driving to the luncheon location and then back home again. He responds with – well, I wondered about that when you told me your plan. Then he says, you know, I would have been happy to drive you there, drop you off, disappear for a while and wait for your call to be picked up if you had planned this on my day off.
He meant that ever so sincerely! He’s just like that. It was one of those neat moments, when you are reminded that he does respond to things he knows about you (at just the right moment).
Thanks Mom! – My parents have been married for thirty-eight years, have two daughters, two sons-in-law, two grandchildren and two grand-dogs. They have a delightful life in Tampa, FL, are avid travelers and especially enjoy road trips. And you guessed it, Dad always drives!
