With all of the decisions you have been making along your path to marriage, it’s time to decide on the wedding date! You cannot confirm anything with wedding vendors if you do not have a date set. Once you have decided on a wedding date, the reality of your wedding is far more concrete in everyone’s minds, especially yours and your groom to be!
This is why it is so important to sit down with your fiancé and carefully decide on the date of your wedding. There are many areas to consider when choosing this date, which will be your anniversary for many years to come.
- Consider family obligations for the upcoming year. If you know there is a family reunion in the works, you may want to schedule your wedding for another time, or you may want it to coincide so everyone will be together. One of you may be in the military, and have a limited time frame to work with. Go over your yearly schedule, and plan accordingly.
- Decide if holidays are right for your wedding. Some people enjoy having their wedding on a holiday, birthday, or the anniversary of your first date for a fun dual celebration. However, many of your wedding guests may have other plans which could prevent them from attending your wedding.
- Choose the season. Once those considerations are out of the way, decide on the time of year you would love to have your wedding. For a lighthearted, more relaxed wedding, the spring and summer months are great. For a classic, traditional style wedding, fall and winter provide an excellent backdrop.
- Picking the day. Weekends are the busiest for most wedding vendors, yet also the most convenient for guests. Be sure that you both have time off available from your jobs around the time that you are considering.
Once you have finally chosen the wedding date, you can send save the date cards to your potential wedding guests to let them know about your upcoming wedding. These are much less formal than wedding invitations, and allow people to plan well in advance to attend your wedding. Even if you have to trim your guest list later on, don’t be afraid to share your wedding date with everyone! They will all be happy to share in your wedding bliss.
