What is your favorite love song of all time? Is it a classic or a contemporary? Is it a ballad or one with a dance beat? Is it country or pop or rock?
About.com put The Beatles “Something” in the top love song spot.
In a special Valentine’s article in 2007, “Best Love Songs Ever“, Rolling Stone gives The Zombies “This Will Be Our Year” the top spot in their list of five best love songs ever.
CMT (Country Music Television) gives the top honor in the country category to Dolly Parton for “I Will Always Love You”.
I’m a sucker for a good love song. I like songs that tell stories. Many years ago my favorite was a country ballad by Colin Raye called “Love Me”. Other favorites have included The Carpenters “Close To You”, and Harry Connick Jr’s “We’re In Love”, Most recently I’d have to say my most favorite love song is “Easy Silence” by the Dixie Chicks.
That’s a “brag on him” song if I ever heard one! I love the raw honesty and intimacy that is expressed in this song. And even though I’m not a well known singer/songwriter, I can appreciate and identify with the need to be protected from the outside world when life comes banging on my door.
What are some of your favorite love songs?
I asked some friends for their input and they said:
- “To Make You Feel My Love” by Garth Brooks
- “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds
- “True Companion” by Mark Cohen
Keep the answers coming! Why do you like them? Have you kept one favorite song for years or do your favorites change over time?

My favorite–the one we played at our wedding–is more contemporary, I guess. “Not Fire, Not Ice” by Ben Harper. We can’t hear it without stopping what we’re doing and slow dancing around the kitchen/living room/wherever.
I put my favorite love songs on a playlist here: http://www.playlist.com/playlist/14952957963
My all time favorite love song is “Don’t know much” by Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstant. Favorite of the moment is “Love like Crazy” by Lee Brice. Our wedding song was “Don’t Want to miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. I think love songs are great! Everyone has a favorite and there are so many to choose from! Oh,” Sentimental Journey” is another of my favorites!
One of my favorite love songs is “A Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder.
