Ever notice how good sex and a good marriage have a great deal in common? When one person moves one way, the other shifts to accommodate them. Each knows what the other enjoys and does it automatically, almost without thought, bringing pleasure to the other. Sometimes one takes the lead, sometimes the other. If it’s only one person taking the lead all the time both get bored and tired, especially the one leading. Trying new things usually makes it even better, and when it doesn’t it’s at least good for a laugh.

In good sex the communication is simple, direct, urgent at times. There is not too much talking, hinting, or expecting the other to read your mind.. There is doing, and adjusting along the way.

If one has an injury or other discomfort, both change what they are doing to accommodate it.

Good sex comes from knowing, and being known. One can’t enjoy sex while trying to hide from the other, afraid of rejection, or ridicule. Pleasure in each other comes from trust, from knowing that the other finds pleasure in one’s body.

It’s no wonder then that sex is considered “the act of marriage”. When two people give themselves to the act of giving each other physical pleasure, they also orient their minds and hearts toward the act of serving each other in ways that reach outside the bedroom as well.

And that’s what a good marriage is really all about in the end isn’t it? Each person serves the other and seeks to give the other pleasure, showing them love in the myriad of small and large ways that make up a relationship.
