Recently I was asked to write a small book of marriage advice for a bride-to-be. This came as quite a surprise, as I’ve only been married four and a half years. What came as a bigger surprise was the response I received when I presented the bride with the book and a reading of its contents at her wedding shower. Women of all ages and in all stages of life approached me following the reading to ask for their own copies. “It’s such a good reminder of the basics, the stuff we seem to forget so easily!” “There were some things in there I’d never even thought of.” I was humbled and honored at all the positive feedback I received, and I thought to myself, “This would make a great series for the Wedded Bliss ladies!”
We’ll have 10 installments of the Basics. Some of them will be old hat to many of you, but some may really catch you by surprise. We can all use gentle reminders from time to time about how to be godly wives.
Wedded Bliss Basic #1- Kiss a lot!
I know it may sound crazy simple, but hear me out! When I was engaged, the mister and I kissed ALL THE TIME! It was our favorite thing to do! I remember a married friend telling me that she and her husband rarely kissed anymore, and I felt so sad for her. I promised myself I’d never let that happen to me! Well, after 4 years of marriage and a with a 16 month old daughter, and I’m ashamed to admit that there are often days that go by without even a quick peck! But I’ve found that when I am intentional about planting a big one on my mister several times a day, we stay more connected in other ways too. His heart is more softened to me, even after a hard day. His countenance is brighter and, you’ll have to take my word on this, he helps more around the house!
So, ladies, my challenge to all of us this week is to kiss our men so often that we use up a tube of chapstick!
