Who Goes To Bed First?

In the early days of my marriage, bedtime was the same time for both of us. I mean, why stay up when the love of your life is going to bed, right? We’d snuggle (and stuff) and then drift off to sleep…together. It didn’t take long, though, for our bedtime schedules to shift and more often than not, one of us (me) is in bed before the other (him).
So what about you? How does bedtime play out in your house?

He wakes up earlier and goes to bed first. He also kinda expects I’ll go to bed at the same time, but… I’m more of a night owl than he is.
He gets up at 3:30AM for work…so he’s usually in bed long before me (or even our toddler!). On weekends we stay up together though.
When he has to work, he goes to bed first. On weekends and vacations we both stay up. We are both night owls.
We’re still in the newlywed stage, so we always go to bed at the same time. I know it won’t always be that way, but one of my goals for our marriage is to try our best to go to bed together as much as we can.
Oh! I wish I had known that only newly weds go to bed together… I love that end of the day chat as we drift off… over tousled heads that have joined us in bed!!! – I miss going to bed together and here I thought everyone else did it all the time and it was just my poor husbands antisocial behavior!!! I guess after sixteen years we are no longer newly weds and I should perhaps lower my expectations slightly. Poor man, what he doesn’t have to put up with!
He usually goes to bed first but he stays up reading until I come to bed. Then I usually fall asleep first.
He requires way less sleep than me, so it’s never unusual for me to go to bed at 10:00 or 11:00, and he’ll stay up till 1am or so.
We go to bed at the same time, unless one of us has to get/stay up with the baby. Alas, “Bedtimes are determined by urchins” wasn’t one of the choices.
LOL Christina! That should have been a choice, you’re right
Generally, I go to bed first, but we get up at the same time. He’s in the army and used to running on little sleep – me, I’m a chronic insomniac, so I could go to bed at 9 and get up at 7 and still not feel rested (and I do sometimes!)
I like Christina’s option, above! Even though my kids are older, they still play a role in when I get to sleep. One of them has to be up at 6:40 two days a week, which means that I absolutely cannot stay up blogging and tweeting until the wee hours unless I want to be a total bear the next day. In general, we go to bed within an hour of one another. Who goes first depends on whether or not I’ve fallen into cyberspace. Weekends, though, we still go at the same time, but I’m usually the only one hoping for sleep.
I”ve always been an early riser and I tend to go to bed first. I usually read, then sleep.
i go to bed first for the most part and it has become a big problem in our relationship recently. he’s a night owl and sleeps in – especially on the weekends – while i am an early riser and early bird. at times it is like we are on completely opposite schedules and this makes it hard for us to spend quality time together. it’s a challenge we are working on but it’s hard to find the compormise…
