Anyone who works at home will tell you that one of the hardest parts is finding balance – focusing on work during work time and family during family time. For moms who are literally caring for their children while working, this is an even more daunting task.
Here are three tips that help me make the most of both my work and family time:
- Plan a schedule (even a flexible one) to give yourself dedicated work time, either while your children are sleeping or while your husband is overseeing childcare duties.
- Set limits on your procrastinating so that surfing the internet or chatting with friends doesn’t use up your work time and leave you with a long to-do list to make up later.
- Don’t allow the “tyranny of the urgent” to suck you in to answering emails and putting out fires when you should be spending time with your family. Schedule a time for taking care of these things and make yourself unavailable the rest of the time.

Great tips, Mandi. Its reassuring to know that I’m not the only WAHM who struggles with the balance issue. #2 is especially helpful! I’m amazing at how much time the social media/blogging/”fun” work actually takes. Great tips…thanks for sharing!
