While the increasing use of cell phones and “family share plans” has eliminated the need for long-distance service for many people, some of us still have no choice but to use our landline phones for long-distance calls. As my mom says, you have to “balance on the edge of the porch while standing on one foot facing east” to get cell service at my house.
I use Skype for chatting with my sister computer-to-computer, as well as the Skype outbound calling feature for quick calls to my husband during the day. However anyone who’s used Skype knows that the sound quality can be sketchy at best sometimes, especially when calling a phone versus computer-to-computer. With free computer-to-computer calls and 0.021 a minute for outbound calls within the U.S., though, this service is still a great value.
On the other hand, there are time that I know I want to have a lengthier or more serious conversation with my mom or husband that I prefer to use my landline so that I’m not constantly having to repeat myself. In these cases, I don’t know what I would do without our OneSuite account, which we’ve had for as long as we’ve been married.
OneSuite rates within the U.S. are only $0.025 a minute, and their service is amazing. Their online account management shows you your balance, and refilling is so easy that I’ve been known to do it while on the phone when the “You have one minute remaining” warning buzzes in my ear!
What service do you use for long-distance calls?
