For months now, I have been listening to Dave Ramsey’s talk show on our local radio station. His plan for financial freedom sounded so doable and really intrigued me.
The problem was, trying to explain it to my husband. It would all get lost in translation and he was never in the car at the time of Dave’s radio show. So, needless to say, I was beyond thrilled when our church announced that it was offering Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.
I am loving the idea of being debt free and not having to worry about emergencies. When you have some money saved up and set aside, suddenly emergencies aren’t… and those potential stresses just aren’t there any longer…
Sound good to you?
Each week, in this space, I am going to discuss points of the plan and even discuss some of the things that my family is doing to make the necessary changes. This isn’t a get rich quick infomercial. It is a plan that requires commitment for the long haul. But the rewards will be huge for our families.
I hope you’ll join me as we work towards financial peace.

I am so excited about this, Karla. I’ve heard such good things about Dave Ramsey, but truthfully, I don’t have time to read a whole book or attend a seminar. Bite-sized chunks are just what I need!
I’m also excited about this. Hubby listens to Dave Ramsey and we’ve applied some of his steps to our finances, but we can’t afford the actual books and workbooks for Financial Peace University.
Hi ladies,
My husband and I went through FPU last fall with our church. It was an amazing experience. Learning the inner-workings of our finances definitely opened up lines of communication regarding where our money came from, and where it should go. I had NO clue about our $$, I didn’t even know website passwords to our financial accounts! Now, even though we may not stick 100% to “Dave’s Plan,” we are communicating near-daily on where we stand, what bills are coming due, the amount of debt left to pay, etc.
It really is Liberating! Good Luck to all!
i love Dave Ramsey and his books for kids are fabulous!! Can’t wait to hear what you think!
I think it is important to mention that you can listen to his radio show via his website every day — and listen to his archives. The link to his podcasts are here:

Awesome! My husband & I just signed up at our church – we start Mid-March I think. I’ve been a little nervous about it – will be fun to compare notes…or at least read yours. =-)
Karla,
What a timely series! DH and I have been seriously discussing financial wisdom, so I look forward to hearing what you have been learning and applying!
And Ali: thanks for the podcast link! (I’m a podcast junkie!)

My husband and I have been paying off our debt using Dave’s baby steps since June. We have paid off an amazing amount and cannot wait to be really weird and debt free! I can’t wait to read more in this series!
PS – I took about an hour this morning and creating an excel sheet tracking all of our income/expenses for the month of February. EYE OPENING to say the least! I am gonna start listening to Dave more often. LOL
Cool! We’ve been on Dave’s plan for 3 years and are debt-free but the house.
I love Friday’s radio program, when they scream….. We’re debt FREEEEEEEEEE….
Great post, and DR’s plan is excellent. We’ve worked hard for years to be debt-free and stay that way!
Great site!
I read Dave Ramsey’s book and we, too, are debt-free – except for the mortgage of course. Although doesn’t Dave also advocate paying off the house? That would be a very tough one for us….we may need the 22 years to do that one…..
This sounds great and timely. Hubby and I have been talking about how we need to clean up our finances. I look forward to this.
I can’t wait to hear what you have to say on this! I haven’t heard of the author but it sounds very intriguing. I hope I can put it into practice very soon.
I just found you on Stumble Upon. I love your site! I love Dave Ramsey, too, and I’ll be adding you to my feed reader.
