It is that time of year… Spring is coming, and your child’s shorts are too short and those cute tees are a smidge too tight. What to do?
Have you noticed how expensive children’s clothing is? I know I do not have the money to pay full price for children’s clothes, but my girls do have to have something to wear.
Consignment sales are usually twice-a-year sales, coinciding with the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. They offer gently used (and sometimes new) children and maternity items at a fraction of the cost of new clothing. In many sales, items are discounted even further on the last day of the sale.
While consignment sales are an excellent place to purchase clothing for your children, you need to follow a few tips:
1) Attach a rope to the handle of a laundry basket or tub. You need something to put all those bargains in!
2) Know your child(ren)’s sizes before you go: shoe, shirt, pants, etc. Make a list and stash it in your purse.
3) If you see something you like, grab it. You can always put it back later.
4) Check your items carefully. Most sales have strict guidelines, but we are all human, and sometimes stains, holes, etc. are missed at clothing check-in.
5) Know what you are spending before you check out. This is a good rule of thumb anytime you are shopping!
6) Enjoy your “new” items. Doesn’t it feel good to save money on things you really need?

I am glad I stumbled on this site. I like it and will visit often. Have a blessed day! Dana :0)
I would add volunteer if you can – you get to shop early and get the best bargains at the best prices. I have found some serious deals because I was one of the first ones in the door. The little time invested is well worth it.
I’d also add: leave the kiddos at home if at all possible! There’s usually a TON to go through and you need all the time to look through it or you’ll end up making purchases you don’t need.
I love consignment sales and am quit addicted
I meant quite – sorry.
I just bought entire summer wardrobes (minus swim suits and sleepers) for my 2 daughters last weekend at a consignment sale. For both of them (12 outfits for one and 16 for the other plus 2 toys), I spent $100. I love consignment sales! Now I just need to get myself organized enough to sell some things at one.
Consignment sales are the best! Especially the ones that are hosted at a church, because you can write the proceeds off on your taxes for a charity donation. I rarely buy my kids(20 months old and 3 months old) any new clothes because I feel like they are just going to be growing out of it in a few months. Even when I go to Good Will, I have that thought in the back of my head that I can probably get some of the clothes cheaper at the semi-annual consignment sale.
