I love these pre-packaged snacks. They are so handy to grab for snack time and to stick in my kid’s lunch boxes, but they are so expensive. Even if I find them on sale for $2.00 that works out to be $.33 per snack. I try to pay no more than $.17 per snack (that may sound like a strange number, but I aim for 6 snacks for $1.00).
So I have come up with my own system. This is our snack box that we keep in the pantry (you can also see my nice stockpile of peanut butter, thanks to Walgreens!)
I take Ziplock baggies and fill them with one serving. This happens to be Saltine crackers that I got on sale for $1.00. The box contains 15 servings which works out to be about $.07 per serving.
This week I had graham crackers, pretzels, saltine crackers, granola bars and Rice Krispies Treats on hand. These were all items that I had previously purchased on sale when I found them for less than 6 servings for $1. It takes me about 10 minutes to divide everything up, and then they are ready and convenient for us to grab them when we are in a hurry. I have all of the convenience without having to spend all of the money.
