Going green doesn’t always have to cost you green.
A simple and inexpensive way to move a little closer to the green side is to stop using paper towels. If you have a lot of towels around your house, pick out some of the old ones and break out the scissors. Cut your old towels up into smaller rags, and keep them in a kitchen drawer, or a container in the pantry. Instead of reaching for that roll of paper towels next time, grab a rag. When you are done, toss it in the laundry basket.
It may not seem like a big savings at first, but if you cut out one roll of paper towels per week that normally cost $1.29 per roll, in one year you will save a little over $67.00. I don’t know about you, but I can think of many other places I could use that extra money in my budget.

What a great tip! You can also pick up “old” towels and cloth napkins at thirft stores for cheap!
We already do this and love it! Not only are cut up towels more absorbent but they are economical and we are doing a small part for the environment!
We started doing this several months ago. We only break out the paper napkins for guests as usually we don’t have enough cloth. I also only use paper towels for big messes or having to do with things like meat juice clean up etc. We use a dish rag a day.
Ditto on switching from paper to cloth — we love Fabkins, super cute cloth napkins for kids. We use them everywhere, not just “at home”, on the go, in lunchboxes, picnics, and so on. We love that we’re saving money, and love that we’re teaching our children to be eco-conscious. It’s that easy! http://www.fabkins.com
