Where oh where have all the jobs gone? Seems like everywhere you turn you hear about layoffs, cutbacks, and downsizing. It is very easy to see the glass half empty and think you will never find a job. Quite the opposite, actually. There are jobs out there. Good jobs! Here are a few of the resources my mother-in-law recently utilized when she was on the hunt.
- Job Clubs: These are a great place to network! Check your local paper or Chamber of Commence for locations and times.
- Linked In- Think of it as a professional Facebook. Be sure to keep it PROFESSIONAL, prospective employers don’t want to hear about your adventures in potty training.
- Monster, CareerBuilder, etc. – Online “help wanted ads” are very popular, which is a great thing; however, there is the occasional scam. Look over anything with a cautious eye. That being said, this is the preferred way of advertisement for most companies.
- Your local newspaper- Depending on the size of your town, these can be a great resource for finding local jobs. Our newspaper has a column everyday of “these places have openings.”
- Career Fairs- These are an amazing place to get on-the-spot interviews and to make that critical first impression. Be sure to bring LOTS of resumes. It is better to have too many than too few.
