In Palmdale, California in 1994 a woman named Dee began a business called “Dee’s Connections” and within months she had formed several offshoots of the original network, which served to help home party business entrepreneurs grow their network.
The idea was simple, and can easily be adapted by ANYONE with a home party business. Dee charged a small membership fee and hosted monthly events where sales reps from Tupperware, Avon, Mary Kay, Home Interiors, Usborne Books, Discovery Toys and any number of other party businesses would share appetizers and get to know one another.
How The Connection Network Was Managed
A condition of membership was that you must host one home party each month, with your friends and family, in your own home. In exchange, the other 11 sales reps in your network would be hosting a home party with you over the year.
New reps who invested in their own network via Dee’s Connections were able to grow very quickly, with the new acquaintances and contacts made through Dee’s Connections. Some of the upper-level reps with a large downline also ended up doing very well with the relationships forged through Dee’s Connections, sometimes using the events and connections to help train new recruits.
Additional Benefits of Networking
In addition to instantly scheduling 11 home parties for your own business, a friendly relationship with other sales reps is a great way to share training tips and see what the competition is up to.
What ever became of Dee? We may never know. Her legacy of creating mini networks of sales reps from different companies need not be lost, though.
