At least once a week, I get offers in the mail from different car dealerships, all ready to finance a brand-new car just for me. It’s no news that the new-car business has dipped over the past couple of years, so dealers are turning to all sorts of gimmicks and promotions to sell their new vehicles. Thanks for thinking of me guys, but really, I’ll pass. Why? I’d rather buy a used car and get more for my money!
If you’re in the market for a new-to-you automobile, buying a late model used car is the way to get the most bang for your buck. According to a recent Consumer Reports study, buying a three-year-old car instead of the brand-new model of the same car can save you enough money to pay for your gas for three years (and that’s estimated at four dollars a gallon!)

The same study also suggests that you can get more luxury for your buck by buying used. For instance, you can either have a new Toyota Camry V6 or a three-year-old Lexus LS430 for about the same costs in price and maintenance over five years. While the Camry may be “brand new”, the Lexus offers more room, more amenities, and a quieter drive.
And that, my friends, is why I drive the finest luxury automobile available…in 1994.
