There are many fun and meaningful ways to celebrate Easter with your family. It’s a time of year to celebrate new life, new beginnings, new lessons. And while we’re busy enjoying those things, we can also re-enforce the details of our family’s faith.
Here are five of my favorite ideas.
Celebrating Easter with the Family
- Use Resurrection Eggs for your family’s egg hunt. They’re colorful, fun and teach beautiful lessons about the Biblical Easter story. Once the eggs have been found, read the story together and then open each egg as you discuss their contents.
- Make Empty Tomb Buns together. Be sure to point out the symbolism of the ingredients as you assemble them.
- Find a passion play or walk-thru Holy Week experience in your area. Many churches present these annually as a part of their Easter celebration, and they really make the Easter story come alive!
- Enjoy some great Easter-themed movies together. The Passion of the Christ is a good choice for adults and older children (parental discretion is advised, though, as there are disturbingly realistic portrayals of the crucifixion). For the younger crowd, our family loves Veggie Tales: And Easter Carol. Find ones that’s good for your family and make it a movie night! Serve pretzels as a snack and explain their symbolism before you start the movie.
- Consider attending a sunrise service Easter morning. It’s a beautiful way to begin the day together!
Does your family have special Easter traditions? What do you do to help your kids understand the significance of the holiday?
