My son was born prematurely due to my preeclampsia.  Whenever he has any issues, learning, behavior, social or otherwise, I am quick to blame myself. Because of me he had to come early, putting him at risk for a variety of issues. I am the poster child for mommy guilt on those days. When the guilt comes in, I am reminded of all the famous people who were faced with special needs and have gone on to do amazing things.

• Artists such as Beethoven, John Lennon, and DiVinci

• Actors like Tom Cruise, Jay Leno, and Michael J Fox

• Politicians and world Leaders like George Patton, Nelson Rockefeller, and Bob Dole

While I am not sure what the future holds for my child, knowing there are people who have overcome insurmountable odds to achieve their dreams gives me hope for my sweet little boy. And from hope, the guilt goes away.
