Teaching your children the 3 R’s (Reduce, Recycle, Reuse) of Earth Day doesn’t have to be a chore. It can be fun for the whole family! Try these ideas and share any of your own with our readers!
Five Fun Ways to Celebrate Earth Day with your Family
- Introduce your game-loving kids to Michael Recycle. They’ll learn while they help Michael tidy up his environment.
- Plant a Family Garden. Get everyone involved in the planning, the planting, the pruning and the picking!
- Encourage your children to join you in saving electricity, water, and other natural resources. Turn off water while brushing your teeth. Don’t waste electricity by leaving tv’s and lights on when you leave the room. Try line-drying your family’s laundry. Set a timer during showers/baths.
- Look for ways to reuse items you would normally just throw away. Get the kids to help turn old cereal boxes into magazine holders. Decorate empty cans to make herb pots. The internet is full of ideas!
- Make a commitment to stop buying bottled water. It’s mostly filtered tap water anyway, and the plastic bottles are filling up landfills all across the globe. Buy a reusable BPA-free option like Klean Kanteen, Sigg, Nalgene,CamelBak or Thermos. Do your research. There are many great products out there.
