Get The Kids Excited About Cleaning Up

Do your kids complain when it is time to pick up their toys? Recently I found that the easiest way to get my kids to pick up without complaints is to turn clean up time into a game of pretend play. My son loves his dump truck so we have him load everything up and take it into the playroom to be put away. My daughter does the same with her shopping cart.
It’s not the fastest way to clean up because they do get side tracked with the playing, but they end up having fun and it doesn’t feel like a chore. In the end the toys get picked up and everyone is happy.
How do you get your kids excited about picking up their toys?

The Clean up song!
Honestly… it’s catchy… the kids understand it… and we clap when someone puts away a book or a toy (I have done this with all of my kids. I have six ranging in ages between 17 years – 15 months)
It works….
Clean Up
Clean up
Everybody everywhere
Clean Up
Clean up
Everybody do your share
It just works!!
I am also the first one on the floor to help, so they can see me doing it.
It is all about making it fun, like you said.
I have my boyfriend doing it with his son now… and it is working. He even thanked me the other day for teaching him the song. YAY… now I won’t trip on his toys…
Suzanne, Thanks for sharing and yes we sing that one also! Anytime you mention picking up toys my daughter sings it but it sounds more like keen up, keen up!
