With 2 long-haired cats and one short-haired, we have a TON of fur in our home. One of our main problems is that our cats don’t particularly like to be groomed and are very particular about what tool I use to groom them. Normally docile, lackadaisical cats can quickly turn into ferocious LIONS (hissing, biting, and just plain ugly) if you have the wrong tool or it takes too long. We got to a point that either we needed to invest heavily in some protective gear or we needed a new answer to grooming.
Then, our veterinarian recommended the FURminator deShedding Tool.

It is AMAZING! I could not believe the amount of fur I got out of my cat the first time I used it and I continue to be amazed. I got this amount of fur

from grooming our Silver Persian who is very small and petite

for about 2 minutes–seriously!
She doesn’t like sitting still for her “fur do’s” so I needed something that could get the job done quickly and this tool fits the bill. When you buy it, it doesn’t look like it will do much. Though it has some weight to it, it’s teeth are very small, but very effective. It also doesn’t hurt like the good old steel comb seemed to at times. The FURminator is not recommended for tangles though, so keep that in mind if your pet has some snarls. Also, the FURminator comes in 3 sizes–small, medium, and large and can be used on cats and dogs.
The only downfall I’ve found is it’s a bit pricey. At Petco it runs between $33-$60. I have found it on Amazon for a bit cheaper at around $18-30.
Here’s to snarl-free, spiffy lookin’ fur babies!

We use a FURminator for our German Shepherd Dog. I pull off at least one grocery bag full of fur each time I use it. I seriously can’t believe that the dog is not bald!!!
