Trick or Treat!
Halloween is just around the corner and the kids are getting excited! If you asked most children, they’d tell you their favorite part of Halloween is the trick-or-treating. It’s all about the candy, of course. But while Halloween can be a fun time for everyone, it also brings a unique set of dangers and responsibilities.
Halloween Safety Tips
Be sure to go over these safety precautions with your family before Halloween so everyone can have a spooktacularly fun night of trick-or-treating.
- Costumes that are dark-colored should include reflective tape to increase visibility for motorists.
- Costumes and masks should not obscure vision or hinder mobility.
- Younger children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Older children going in groups should be clearly educated about their approved route and safety measures. They should also be given a curfew and cell phones.
- Trick-or-treaters need to know not to cut through alleys or fields and to obey pedestrian traffic rules.
- Children should NEVER enter the home or vehicle of anyone they do not know.
- Children should NOT eat any of the candy until they return home and a parent or other adult can look for problem candy. Candy with wrappers that appear to have been tampered with should be discarded.
With responsible safety tips and the right precautions, trick-or-treating can be a great experience. Have fun. Stay safe. Boo!!
