There are certain activities I would change if I ever “make it” in life.
If I make it financially, I will no longer be creating $40 meal plans.
If I make it on my blog, I will be test-driving a Mercedes.
If I make it as a homemaker, all of our laundry will be washed, folded and put away in one day. (Or I’ll fully accept that is just never going to happen and change my homemaking goal.)
As moms, we’re continually striving to make it as great moms and often compare ourselves to other moms in the process. It’s easy to think we haven’t made it because our tubs are dirty or we’re not pulling hot cookies out of the oven.
But recently, my daughter made me realize I’ve made it as a mom – for now.
She’s been caring for her favorite stuffed animals by pretending to change diapers, feed snacks and comfort them by gently patting their backs.
She mimics the actions she believes communicate love. And all this time, I thought they went unnoticed and unappreciated.
Maybe someday she will switch from Winnie the Pooh to, ya know, an actual human being.
But for today, I’ve made it because my daughter knows she’s loved. And right now, there’s nothing else I want her to know.
Now maybe I should fold that last pile of clothes since today is the fifth day of laundry “day.” I’m not even close on that one.

Another beautiful post Katie. It’s nice to get those glimpses that we are actually doing something right.
Oh my word that was so sweet!! I’m seriously wiping tears away right now!! Thanks for that article, it was needed today!
Beautiful post, Katie! It is so true… that is how my girls make me feel when I see them imitating me. I feel as if I have “made it,” too.
And, I’m on day 4 of “laundry day” myself
This is soo true. Just today, I almost started crying when Leyton was pretending his cup of water was going “night-night”. He put it up on his shoulder, kissed it and started rocking while patting it! Too cute.
I love that our babies are the same age…I can totally relate. Ella has been doing the same things with her babies. She pretends that they’re crying, then she picks them up, hugs them and gives them kisses upon kisses. I love it when she does that…
Great post.
Thanks for the reminder, Katie! It’s so beautiful when we finally see glimpses of our parenting in action – in someone else.
