Lessons We Can Learn from our Grandchildren
I have totally enjoyed every age and stage of motherhood! What I had no idea at the time is how I would enjoy being a grandmother EVEN MORE! How is that possible?
My husband and I recently spent 5 days staying with my granddaughters while their parents went out of town house hunting for a long distance move. We have spent enough time around them to know their schedule, but adding disciple changed our relationship. They tested us from the beginning and we had to set the limits that were consistent with what their parents had in place. In the process, we discovered that there is much that we can learn from our grandchildren.
- God gave us children at a specific time in our lives for a reason. We noticed the energy level is a huge factor!
- The tenacity of children is something that we should duplicate. How many adults will persist as well as children do?
- Children have a different definition than we do of the word “no”. If you are in sales, do you stop when you hear that word? Are you afraid of hearing it?
- As a grandparent, you have the opportunity to not take yourself so seriously. Ella calls me the “silly” grandma. The ability to be playful and childlike is something that we should continue every day.
- Never stop learning. I love the inquisitive nature of children. They want to know “why” about everything. Do we always take a few minutes to find out the answer?
- The faith of a child is so precious. They have not yet learned how to worry. About 5 minutes after their parents left, Ella locked us all together in her room. (the lock is on the outside of the door) Her reaction was simple- “don’t worry, Grandma, we’re all together”. (I was clearly worried, but Alex got us out in about 5 minutes without damage to the door)
I hope that this post will cause you to stop for a moment and discover that child within you. It’s still there. Once you find it, your life will be filled with so much more joy!
