I hear this approximately 11,974 times a day. Approximately.
It’s a common thing to hear from preschoolers every now and then. They are figuring out so many new things and are terribly eager to show off their new tricks. But with multiples? The competition for center stage is fierce.
I remember when my husband and I were dating. His youngest cousin had just been born. She was an only child. The baby. The world was truly her stage. She never had to ask us to watch her latest and greatest achievement. We were already sitting there watching her every move. “Oh! She danced! Wasn’t that cute?” “Look! She just jumped on one foot! She’s a genius!”
But with our triplets, it’s different. They collectively get tons of attention just because there are three of them. If one of them needs to tell or show us something individually, though, it’s tough. They have to work really hard to get our attention. And their frustration grows quickly.
I need to work on ways to give each of them more center stage time. Because they are all stars.
