Enter with caution into this family zone where both generations are waiting for their events to arrive. Although we are in different age groups, the issues we are facing at this time of our lives are not very different. We both seem to be dealing with:
- personality changes
- changes in body composition
- emotional issues
- needing more sleep
- hunger pains
- depression lingering
- hormones
- acne appearing
- bone density
- bad hair days
- frequent bathroom visits
For my son, who also happens to be on the autism spectrum and homeschooled, there are books with visuals to help guide him during this transitional phase into adulthood. He turns fourteen in March. On the other hand, I prefer not to have any visuals as I turn 49 in April.
We both seem adrift while we sit and wait for these changes to take place. One other similarity we have is that we both want to leap into our new roles and get on with our lives. My son would rather be at the age of sixteen where he can volunteer at various organizations and become more productive in society. I am looking forward to dating once I get past Menopause.
I look to those before me in this journey by reading books by Suzanne Somers like Ageless and Christiane Northrup, M.D. on The Wisdom Of Menopause.
Bonnie is both a homeschool Mom and home health care worker having Autism Family Adventures and writing about Autism Spectrum Disorders.
