I have to confess that you probably do not want to try to call me between the hours of one and three in the afternoon. Naptime is sacred time at our house. Everyone gets time to themselves, whether for sleeping, reading or just singing to yourself.
Mornings start early at our house (at least early by my standards!). No matter how late my older daughter goes to bed, her internal alarm clock seems to ring about 6:30 every morning. Thanks to the creaky floorboards in our apartment, once she’s awake, everyone’s awake.
We have attempted to train the girls to read books quietly when they get up, hopefully allowing my husband and me to catch some extra z’s. Some days are better than others. Generally, we know it is time for breakfast when the arguing starts.
Once the arguing starts, we have pretty much had the tone set for the day. Who knew the minutiae that could be the catalysts for battles nearing the label of war? I am surprised that some of their arguments have not raised the threat level of the Homeland Security Advisory System.
Which is the reason why naptime is so sacred at our house. The number of battles I have carefully mediated not only should merit the Nobel Peace Prize, but also require alone time for each and every person.
All that to say, if you use naptime to accomplish your phone calls, don’t call me here…I will be asleep; all that peace-making has plumb worn me out.

Nap time is sacred at my home, too. I do not usually answer the phone either.
I am glad to hear I am not the only person with a child who wakes up at the same time regardless when we put them to sleep. Both of my children are like that.
I know exactly what you mean. I LIVE for naptime in my house, lol. That’s usually when I sit down with a snack and watch the “Sex and the City” reruns from the night before. It’s “ME” time. My daughter is 20 months old right now and she’ll actually sleep for 3 hours. I know eventually she’ll nap less and less, but right now I’m trying to enjoy naptime while it still exists!
