When my husband and I got married one of the first things I asked was for him to drive me around the base we were stationed at and give me the tour.
Coming from a military family I know that each base offers a wealth of resources to those who serve on it.
If you are newly married or simply stationed in a new place, be sure to check out what your base has to offer.
More likely than not, to name a few, you will find the following:
• Gym or recreation center at your disposal
• Pool
• Movie theater
• Bowling alley
• Golf Course
• The MWR office where you can find resources for activities in your area or large ticketed events
• An ITT office where you can purchase majorly discounted tickets to theme parks (think Disney!) or popular attractions, even overnight hotel stays!
I find newly married women who are new to military life often feel intimidated on base. Don’t feel that way! Everything on base is made available to you because you are welcome to it.
Think of these resources as the country’s way of thanking you and your husband for serving us proudly. Never shy away from what is offered with joy.
Now, go on girl, buy some tickets to a theme park and have some fun!

Kristen,
I could not agree more. One of the first things my hubby did was give me his own personal “update course”. I think it makes us wives a little more comfortable.
Thanks for sharing!

Not only a tour of the base – but a tour of the area! When we got to our first duty station we took three days and explored everywhere. By the time he went back to work after that long weekend I could get around the town fairly easily. That was a huge thing to me! I was just married, just moved to the area and he was at his first real duty station. Knowing the town helped a lot.
