One of the strongest women I have known in my life is my mom. After my parents divorced when I was quite young, my mother held things together as a single mom until she later remarried. She worked every day, came home put a meal on the table, and yet, still found time to do things for herself. I have vivid memories of her taking me and my brother to the racquetball court to watch her play, hearing the thwack sound of the racquetball ricocheting off the walls as she burned off the energy from a day’s work while we waited.
She has never been one to mince words and one never has to question where they stand with her. It’s a kind of loving honesty and calm to know exactly where you stand, how someone feels – I admire that about her. I’d like to think that I’ve got some of those qualities – that I have her strength, her resolve and her determination.
When I graduated from high school, I spotted her face in the stands. At my college graduation, she flashed the ASL sign for “I love you” from the audience. She and my father walked me down the aisle on my wedding day – because I couldn’t imagine her not sharing that role with him since she’d raised me. She’s always been there.
My mom calls daily – and while it can sometimes be a little much, it’s nice to touch base. She likes to be connected – she’s that way with all of us – we’re a close family. Really close. As in, when my oldest daughter was born, mom lived less than a mile away from me. Now, she’s a little further away — but still not so far that it takes longer than a five minute drive in the car to see her.
I’m kind of lucky that way. So many people aren’t – so many moms aren’t with their children (and we’re always children, right? Even when we’re grown with kids of our own!). That’s why Proctor & Gamble’s Thank You Mom Reunion Contest is so awesome.
Thank You Mom Reunion
P&G will be reuniting 105 moms with their children for those milestone family moments they might have otherwise missed. There will be 15 reunions a month for ten months. P&G will be awarding travel vouchers to help cover travel costs for those chosen for the reunion.
How to Enter
Log onto ThankYouMom.com to enter to win by submitting a 100-word essay about why you’d like to be reunited with your mom (or simply log on to vote for your favorite entry). Fifteen entries will be chosen every month through November. Even better? Proctor & Gamble is providing a portable digital video camera to record those happy moments!
If you’re like me and your mom is nearby, it’s still worth checking out Thank You Mom to read the stories of those wishing to be connected with their moms – and voting for the story that most touches your heart.
This Sunday, I’m lucky enough to be able to spend Mother’s Day with my husband and kids… and my mother, too. I think it’s fabulous that over the next ten months, other people are going to get to share those special moments with their moms, too.
This is a sponsored post but the thoughts and opinions are purely my own.

What a fantastic contest opportunity! I know some military wives who haven’t seen their mothers in awhile who would love this.

P&G is awesome for helping to reunite so many moms and kids who wouldn’t be together otherwise. I am so lucky to be able to spend Mother’s Day with my mom (and my mother-in-law).
Moms rock! Thanks P&G!
I absolutely love this campaign by P&G. There are so many families that are not close to each other for so many different reasons. So awesome to to bring them together.
