In light of recent recalls with children’s over-the-counter medications, Tylenol is making changes to its products as well as providing new tips for dispensing medications for infants and children.
Tylenol has currently pulled its infant medications from store-shelves, however they are working to standardize acetaminophen doses for infants and children, as well as provide updated bottles and equipment for dosing. They hope to have product back on the shelves for cold and flu season.
Tips for Dispensing Medicines to Infants and Childrens
Tylenol has provided these tips using the acronym, NURSE, for giving medication to infants and children:
Never give adult medication to children
Use the measuring device that comes with the medication (dropper, syringe, measuring cup), every time you use it.
Read and follow all instructions on the label.
Store all medication out of the reach of children.
Every child grows (know your child’s weight to determine appropriate dosage). If you don’t know your child’s weight, you may wish to consult your child’s doctor for the appropriate dose.
