In the winter, fighting the mundanity insanity seems more than impossible. When the kids don’t keep me entertained with enough funny observations (and they must have known I needed something to write about because they haven’t said anything funny the last three days!), I have to find some other ways to stay sane.
Lately, I’ve been trying to add a little bling to my otherwise boring mommy wardrobe. I started by purchasing a silver purse with lots of shiny extras. I bought it more because it was the size I wanted than for any other reason, but that little purchase lifts my spirits every time I head out the door for another mundane trip to the grocery store or school.
Although at first I felt a little self-conscious about the purse, the purchase of a shiny silver winter jacket seemed to show that I have great fashion sense. Now my jacket and my purse coordinate perfectly. I’m not sure that has ever happened in my life.
Recently I made another bling-y purchase, this time in the form of gold-trimmed New Balance shoes. I noticed that my kids were a little more nervous about this purchase (is it bad if you rely on a three-year-old and a six-year-old for fashion advice?). When my three-year-old said I could keep them I breathed a sigh of relief.
I know that money can’t buy happiness, but when the groundhog has just declared six more weeks of winter, I’ve got to find something that shines! (I really think a tiara should be next—I can get away with that, can’t I?) I may not be the hippest mama on the block but a little bling has gone a long way toward some sanity.

When I opened this post my 3 year old daughter started shouting, “I like dat! I like dat! I DO!”
The tiara is a big hit here.
Very cute! I love the bling to dress up the drab!
It’s amazing how one little fashionable item can make you feel so much better. I recently bought $4 bling-y earrings at Target but they really dress up any outfit and make me feel much more feminine.
