August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month
Unresolved vision problems can hold your children back…in school and in life. While we’re preparing to send our kids back to school, we need to also be sure we’re keeping their eye health and safety in mind.
Know the Warning Signs of Vision Problems in Children

- Blurred or double vision
- Losing place while reading
- Avoiding close work
- Holding reading material closer than normal
- Tending to rub eyes
- Eyes tiring when reading or doing schoolwork
- Turning or tilting head to use one eye only
- Making frequent reversals when reading or writing
- Using finger to maintain place when reading
- Consistently performs below potential
Tips for Keeping Children’s Eyes Healthy and Safe

- If you suspect a problem, take your child to the eye doctor. Be prepared for the exam by checking out these tips.
- Understand the dangers involved in many of your child’s activities and learn to keep your child’s eyes safe.
- Be sure you know what to do in case of an first aid eye emergency.
- Educate yourself and your child about the dangers of UV exposure/damage and protection.
