I was so worried when my kids (especially my identical boys) didn’t have many words in their vocabulary by their 2-year pediatrician check-up. I sat in the waiting room staring at this chart I had been asked to complete. “How many words does he/she know?” Hmm…well they each knew plenty of words, but no one else understood them. I was certain there was something “wrong.”
But as I carefully observed them over the next couple of months, I noticed patterns in their speech. And while I couldn’t understand this language of theirs, it was obvious that they did.
I had heard of “twin language.” I pretty much thought it was a myth…until I realized it was happening in my own home. Suddenly, I became very interested in reading up on this communication system known as Cryptophasia.

I have twins, and up until 18 months they hardly said a word we could understand, but they knew what they were saying. We started with Baby Babble and Baby Einsteins First Words…it got them saying words and got them talking from there. Now we can’t shut them up…but even still, they can mumble something I don’t understand the two of them giggle.
