People ask me all kinds of questions, all the time. The overriding theme seems to be, “What is it like to be in your world?”
Here it goes – imagine yourself longing for something, something you’ve wanted all your life more than anything else in the entire world. Something no amount of money could really buy.
Hold on to that picture.
Now imagine waiting for it forever (or what seems like it anyway.)
Imagine seeing all your closest friends and family members getting what they want most in the world.
“I want it now“ they say and like magic the object of their desire appears.
You pray, you beg, you research, you meditate, you medicate, you do anything with in your power to draw this desire closer to reality.
Now imagine you wake up one morning and someone walks up to you and says “Good news! You know that thing you wanted more than anything in the world? Well here’s FOUR . . . see ya, have fun! ”
Slack-jawed you remember that you have to breathe. Are you happy? Well of course but also scared, petrified, confused and a bit neurotic.
How do I? What did I ? Did I ask for this? Well not exactly, but here it is anyway. The old adage BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR comes to mind.
Life Changes Forever.
The strangest thing in life is to come to a place where no one you have ever known has ever stood. No one has this view. No one can tell you how it should look or where you should turn for advice on how to handle it, or so you think at the moment. No one knows how you feel but many want to and so they ask, which is fine. I would too, believe me. Although now I might have a bit more tact about it, having been on the receiving end of these questions for so long.
For your entertainment, here is just a sample of the more intelligent questions I’ve gotten over the last six years (this is funnier if you imagine a thick hillbilly accent when you read the questions).
- Are those QUATRIPLETS? No, they’re quadruplets.
- Where did you get all those babies from? My uterus, I believe.
- Are those FOUR TWINS? No, they’re quads.
- Are they all yours? Yes.
- Are they identical? No.
- Do you run a daycare? No.
- Do quads run in your family? Quads don’t run in any family.
- Are they artificial? Uumm babies are not artificial. They are not cyborgs, if that’s what you mean.
So to end part one, what it’s like to be me is to have to get used to being in the spotlight though not possessing typical spotlight quality features such as a rockin’ body (in case you were wondering, quad moms aren’t known for having those), tons of money (diapers anyone?), or fame and fortune (well I guess you have to have 7 or 8 babies for that). Being me is probably a lot like being you just more _______ (fill in the blank from the list below).
Crazy, noisy, tiring, exhausting, lunches to make, diapers to change.
Whatever you choose, the answer’s bound to be right!

Great article, and I cannot believe how big your kids are! The questions sound very familiar, glad to know I am not the only one who gets them, Hope you and your family are well!
