Ever wonder how to make dog treats? If it sounds daunting, it isn’t. The great thing about making tasty dog treats at home is that they are fresh with no additives. Go ahead, get creative and add other ingredients. Know that sharing the right yummy snacks reduces begging and keeps your furry friend happy.
It is important to say that it is always best to check with your veterinarian or the pet poison control center prior to giving your pet certain goodies. For instance, raisins, garlic, onions and a variety of other human food items can be toxic to your pooch and so they should be avoided
Let’s explore natural treats, frozen and baked treats first, then you can peruse some of the doggie cookbooks that are available online for additional options or new ideas.
Natural Dog Treats
Believe it or not, there are many dogs that enjoy veggie treats. Carrots, apples and other bite sized munchies can simply be sliced and served. The nice thing about making these natural dog treats is that there is little prep time and seldom any mess. Plus, these types of goodies tend to be low in calories and high in fiber.
Frozen Dog Treats
Frozen dog treats can be a refreshing option. Just add your pureed ingredients into unique ice trays that freeze contents in fun shapes, or to keep your pet busy for a bit longer, consider filling up a convenient pup-cicle mold or stuffing the center of a Kong toy.
Pureed pumpkin (fresh or canned with no added ingredients) is great for your pet’s digestive system with an added benefit of helping to firm up loose stools. Adding mashed bananas or apple sauce can liven things up in the taste department too.
