It’s the holidays, it’s the end of the year, and the kids are home for Winter Break. What will all of us busy moms do to stay merry and bright?? How will we remain sane until they go back to school in 2016?? I have 8 Kitchen Hacks that will, at least, keep our kitchen more organized and tidy while the kids are home non-stop for two weeks.
/1/ Want to make a quick and easy breakfast using only your waffle maker?? Try making cinnamon rolls or hash browns in your waffle maker! Easy clean and no piles of dirty dishes.
/2/ Next time you bake brownies, use a plastic knife to cut brownies and never have a gooey-gooey, crumby mess again. It works, I promise.

/3/ The kids will surely be in and out of the refrigerator, looking for something quick to snack on, time and time again, over the next two weeks. Create a “Snack Zone” filled with mom-approved snacks, so they’ll be in and out in no time. BONUS: Electricity saved!
/4/ Steam clean your microwave. Fill a microwave safe glass with water {add a slice of lemon for an added scent of freshness}, set the microwave to cook for 2-3 minutes, let the steam loosen baked on food splatters, and simply wipe clean with your kitchen sponge or washcloth. A clean microwave is a happy microwave.
/5/ Disinfect your kitchen sponge in the dishwasher. Kitchen sponges are my favorite. Not dish rags or brushes, wash cloths or steel wool, my hands-down favorite way to clean my kitchen is with a kitchen sponge. But, the common kitchen sponge gets a bad rap for its bacteria harboring. So, every few days I place it on the top rack of the dishwasher and voila! it’s disinfected. Of course, still toss it every few weeks for a fresh and new kitchen sponge.
/6/ Remove fingerprints and streaks on stainless steel appliances with…olive oil. That’s right, olive oil. Add a small amount to a paper towel and wipe in long and wide motions. You’ll have beautiful, streak and fingerprint-free appliances in no time.
/7/ Smoothies are all the craze right now…or, at least, they will be when everyone begins to think of New Year’s Resolutions. Instead of washing your blender by hand each and every time you use it, blend soap and water for a quick and easy clean up. Done and done!
/8/ Your kids are home for Winter Break, just about everything is getting played with indoors and out. This means, dirt, germs and everything in-between is entering your home. Never fear, your trusty dishwasher is near!! You can wash just about anything in the dishwasher. From baseball caps to hubcaps, if it’s waterproof, it’s fair game. No more dirt, no more germs! The dishwasher just might be my favorite kitchen appliance EVAH!
Enjoy this fun little video on finding the right appliance for you.
