Mom’s Dream Kitchen Makeover

Tracking PixelWhen I was growing up, I was an only child. Well, I have half siblings, but, unfortunately, we didn’t become close until I was an adult. So, when I got married, I knew I wanted a large family. Three to four kids was what I dreamed of. The overachiever that I am had FIVE kids.

I have a very modest sized kitchen. I don’t know the exact square footage, but I will say that when I’m cooking dinner I would prefer for the kids to NOT be in the kitchen. If one of the kids is getting a drink from the refrigerator and I need to grab the butter, they’re in my way. If one of the kids is coming inside from playing outside and needs to wash their hands and I need to rinse the veggies, they’re in my way. You can only imagine what dinnertime in my house looks like. It’s crazy!

Of course, there are times I wish for a bigger kitchen, a more open kitchen, a kitchen that my family can gather in. I’ve pulled together some of my favorite kitchen designs and appliance dreams to share with you today. Grab a latte and come dream with me…

The kitchen above would be perfect in size for my family. I can imagine a couple kids having an after school snack at the center island, one or two kids sitting at the table doing homework, and the toddler playing with her favorite toy on the floor…all while I’m cooking dinner before Daddy gets home.

I’m actually in the market for a dishwasher as I write this post. When we bought our house, we bought the spec home. With our spec house came basic appliances. By basic, I mean, they get the job done. Our dishwasher, however, only gets the job done if you do 75% of the work for it. All of the food and caked on “gook” has to be cleaned off before you load the dishes into the dishwasher. The dishwasher above is exactly what I’m looking for. It’s stainless steel. It’s sleek. AND, the buttons are on the top. Why is that important?? You have NO IDEA how many times I push the buttons for a long, hot wash, and my 2-year-old goes behind me and pushes the buttons for a cold, quick rinse. *palm to head*

In a perfect world, I would have a double oven. Oh, the dinners I could make, the cakes I could bake, in a double oven. And that island! The entire family could gather in the kitchen for dinner, or the kids and their friends could make crafts or play games around that space.

If I ever do win the Powerball, this is the double oven I would purchase. I’ll buy one for YOU, too!

Are you beginning to see a trend in the kitchens that I find beautiful? They are bright and light filled. I also have a love for hardwood floors. Not only are they so pretty, but they’re easy to clean.

Let’s talk about this refrigerator. When my husband and I went fridge shopping 10 years ago I wanted two things, a french door style fridge and an ice/water dispenser on the outside of the door. The french door style fridge is great for two reasons; everything you need is it eye level and you don’t have to bend down to get anything off of the bottom shelf. Having the ice/water dispenser on the outside of the door keeps dirty little fingers out of the ice tray. My husband is a big fan of the side by side refrigerators, but we all know the saying, “when momma’s happy, everyone is happy.” It rings true in this house when it comes to the refrigerator.

These are only a few things that I would love to see in my kitchen. I could go on and on with requests to make my dream kitchen. What are some appliances that you would love to have in your kitchen? I would love to hear all about it in the comments.
