More often than not, I like to create holiday projects that I can keep up year-round. Sure it’s nice to have a few things that you only bring out on holiday’s to decorate, but I love being able to create something that doesn’t have to be put back into a storage box again.
This paper heart art is the perfect craft project to create with kids for Valentine’s Day and can be displayed not only for the holiday but year-round in your home.
Materials:
- Square canvas – the one I used for this project was 6×6″
- Scrapbook paper
- Tacky glue
- Gold paint and paintbrush
- Heart craft punch
Using the heart-shaped craft punch, punch hearts out of the scrapbook paper. Mix and match as many colors, and patterns as you like.
Some great color/pattern options are:
- black and white with silver or gold
- florals
- solid colors
- ombre
- mix and match like I did here with a floral paper, a patterned heart paper, and a green textured paper.
Fold each heart in half.
Before gluing your hearts into place on the canvas, lay them out to get a feel for placement and the pattern you want to create, and then using the tacky glue, apply it down the center fold on the reverse side of each heart and press into place on the canvas.
Sketch a heart around the outside of the paper hearts, and then paint over it using a gold or silver paint (or whatever color you want to match the paper you used).
Display your Valentine’s Day heart frame on a shelf, on the mantel, or attach a hanger to the back and hang it on the wall. This would be a great addition to a wall collage.
