Cranberry Caramelized Onion and Blue Cheese Dip Recipe

cranberry caramelized onion and blue cheese dip It’s that time of year where Holiday parties are popping up left and right and the need for a dip that wows becomes that much more necessary. If you’re going to an office party, company gathering, play group, bible study brunch or any holiday gathering that calls for you to bring a dish to share.
This holiday dip is unique, delicious, colorful and fun.

This dip combines the best of french onion dip, blue cheese dip and cranberries.

  • 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 4-ounce package crumbled blue cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) finely shredded Cheddar cheese, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium sweet onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup Fresh or Frozen Cranberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)

To start dice your onion and and add oil to the skillet over medium high heat add the onions to the skillet, sautee lightly until just softened and and then add sugar, mix well, and then let continue cooking to caramelize the onions, lower the heat slightly and stir every few minutes, will take about 10 minutes.



While the onions are caramelizing, start on the cheese spread, in your mixer or by hand, if you like a work out. In a mixing bowl add a block of cream cheese and the blue cheese, beat until smooth.   Add in the cheddar cheese, making sure the scrape the sides frequently to ensure that all of the cheeses are well incorporated.

Layer the cheese mixture into a baking dish and let chill for 1 hour.

Once the onions are caramelized remove them from the skillet and set aside.  Into that skillet you’ll add the cranberries, sugar and water, stirring until dissolved.  Turn the heat up to medium and wait for the cranberries to pop open and soften, this should take about 6 minutes.  Once the mixture has begun to thicken, add in the balsamic vinegar and return the onions to the skillet.

Stir well and then let cool.

When you’re ready to serve your dip, spoon the cranberry mixture on top of the cheese mixture and serve this delicious dip with crisp buttery crackers, salty ridged potato chips or your favorite veggie tray.
