Valentine’s Day, the day to toast love, is almost upon us, and you don’t need to be a mixologist to create these four simple, sweet, sparkling cocktails for the one you love. The best part, they each only requires two ingredients, and you can customize most to fit your love’s favorite candy or flavors.
Tip: You can use a sparkling wine, champagne, or prosecco, but I recommend not using anything that’s too dry, or too sweet.
The Sparkling Float
Whether you use a gelato, or ice cream, this simple cocktail is sure to be a hit. I used a raspberry cheesecake gelato to make this one because my boyfriend cannot have a lot of lactose, and seeing as ice-cream scoops are often too large to scoop ice-cream into a champagne glass, try a melon baller instead. Add 3 scoops of gelato to the glass, and top with a sparkling wine. The drink will immediately fizz and foam, but once it settles down, mix it up so that the lovely creamy flavor of the gelato can be tasted in every sip.
The Cotton Candy Cocktail
This is a fun cocktail to make for all kinds of occasions, from New Year’s celebrations to birthday’s. But if you have fond memories of riding a Ferris wheel together, having fun at the fair, or attending a local street festival, then this is the one for you. And did you know cotton candy comes in a variety of flavors and colors? You can order them online or you might get lucky and find them at your local candy store like I did (mine even had bacon flavor).
Sparking Wine with Heart-Shaped Ice Cubes
This one requires an extra day of preparation to make the ice cubes but is just as quick and easy to put together. Simply pour your favorite juice, such as pomegranate, raspberry, grape, cranberry, or even pink lemonade (like I used here) into heart-shaped ice cube molds and pop into the refrigerator to set.
Rock Candy Sparkling Cocktail
Stir a little extra flavor into your sparkling wine, prosecco, or champagne with rock candy. This has to be one of my favorites, and the easiest of all to do. The rock candy will slowly dissolve into the drink, adding a subtle flavor that is amazing.
