National Cookie Day, observed on December 4th of each year, couldn’t come at a better time. Cookies and the holidays go together like cinnamon and sugar or chocolate and peanut butter or caramel and sea salt or, well, you get the picture! And be sure to have a tall, cold glass of milk on hand to wash down whichever crumbly confection you choose to indulge in today!

This is not Homemade Cookie Day (that was October) nor is National Lacey Oatmeal Cookie Day (March), National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day (May), or National Sugar Cookie Day (July). You may choose to celebrate with any store-bought, bakery made or homemade cookie of your liking!

Cookie Jar Tales
There’s often a story behind a treasured recipe or a favorite dish. Scent is a powerful memory inducer and the smell of your favorite cookie baking in the oven or the whiff you get when the package is opened can transport you back to bygone times. What makes your favorite cookie your favorite? Was it because your mom or grandmother made them for you? What memories are evoked when you smell or taste your favorite cookies? Snickerdoodles remind me of church potlucks and persimmon cookies take me back to my grandparent’s house at Christmas. Take some time to capture those memories. Write them down, tell them to your children, reminisce with your family members and find out the story behind their favorite cookie!
Whichever way the cookie crumbles, there are many ways to celebrate this versatile, timeless treat. We hope you have a superbly delicious National Cookie Day!
