I look forward to October and Halloween for many reasons not the least of which are the appearance of the orange-colored creme stuffed Oreos! Also, lots of recipes involving my favorite orange gourd, the pumpkin.
Several months ago, a certain recipe started making the rounds on Pinterest and social networks: the Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie (that is the original recipe, giving credit where credit is due!)
Do you see where I’m going with this? I think Halloween needs it’s own stitched together creation. Something that combines those icons of Halloween goodness - the Frankenstein of Halloween treats: the Halloween Oreo Stuffed Pumpkin Chocolate Cookie! Or simply – Franken Cookie. (Have I just blown your mind, because I mine is completely gone! Or maybe the zombies got to it!)
The Components
- Halloween Oreos
- Pumpkin
- Chocolate Chips

The Method: Pumpkin Chocolate Cookies
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt & cinnamon in bowl and set aside. Beat sugar & oil together, add vanilla, then beat in the egg until fully incorporated. Beat in pumpkin puree. Stir in dry ingredients, then stir in the chocolate chips. Let chill for one hour.
The Experiment
Once my cookie dough had chilled for awhile, it was time to create my monster cookie! I’m a mad scientist I tell ya!
{insert maniacal laughter}
The “Scientific” Observations
The cookie dough is very sticky and difficult to work with. You will get messy. I found that it was easiest to put a blob (yes, blob) of cookie dough on the cookie sheet (covered with a piece of parchment paper – very important – see also: sticky dough) then press an Oreo onto it, then cover then Oreo with another blob of cookie dough. After that, I used my fingers to “wrap” the dough around the Oreo.
The Result
It was…scary. Calling these Franken-Cookies is not out of the question because that are huge and odd looking. But of course what you really want to know is how did they taste? They are spookily good! I confess that the pumpkin flavor of the cookie pretty much overrides the taste of the Oreo inside. However, it does not override the thrill of biting into a cookie only to find another cookie inside of it! Boo-rific!
