Three Ways to Use Up Halloween Candy

Six pounds. We came home with six pounds of candy between our two kids. Now while I could, conceivably, eat that giant pile of deliciousness I certainly couldn’t let my already sweet children binge on that much high-fructose corn syrup. Now that a week has passed it’s time to get rid of the rest of the bag, so here are three ways to disappear that candy before it gets out of control!
- Pay them off. My two trick or treaters were informed in advance that they were to collect as much candy as their little sacks could carry, and that they would then receive a penny for each little piece and a nickel for bigger ones. They got to keep enough to eat for a couple of days, then collected the rest of the money their Christmas Charity fund. Most of the candy we paid them off for was sent to work with my husband for his buddies to eat up.
- Celebrate the coming Winter with a homemade Blizzard. Coarsely chop chocolate treats in the food processors then add two scoops of ice cream and a splash of milk. Whirl around until blended and enjoy a yummy shake.
- Save pretty ones up for decorating gingerbread houses. Pick out a nice selection of M&Ms, Dots, Twizzlers, Tootsie Rolls, Hot Tamales, etc and store in a zip-top bag in the freezer. They’ll be fresh and ready for decorating come December!
What are you doing with all the candy your little goblins collected? Have you eaten it all or has it been squirreled away where you can’t find it?

I love the idea of using the candy on a ginger bread house. My son’s birthday is the day after Thanksgiving and we always build a ginger bread house on his birthday. We have tons of candy that would be great on a house!
What a great idea – I really like the idea of buying it from them (and I’d probably eat it too….)
