Baking Bacon in the oven is the easiest and least messy way to make bacon. No turning it in the frying pan, no messing with paper towels and greasy dishes in the microwave, and it’s so simple you won’t believe it.
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with tin foil, lay your bacon about 3/4″ to 1″ apart.
- Bake at 400 for 12 to 20 minutes. The timing just depends on how crispy you like your bacon.
- Remove the pan from the oven, allow it to cool for a minute or two on the sheet and then remove it to a paper towel lined plate. You can blot it with another paper towel to remove any excess grease if you’d like.
- If you save bacon grease for cornbread and cast iron, then using your oven mitts drain it into your jar from the pan, if you don’t.
- Ball up the tin foil, toss it and then give your pan a quick rinse in soapy water.
Voila!
This method makes fantastic homemade bacon bits for salads, soups and munching and sandwiches.

Great way to make bacon!!!

I do this! One tip – in the last few minutes of baking, loosely lay another piece of tinfoil over the top of the bacon, or the bacon grease will splatter as it cooks and it can make a HUGE smoky mess in your oven. This is esp. true if you like your bacon more crispy. And I do not space mine, I lay them practically on top of each other to get it all on one sheet; they shrink down as they cook. Good topic – it’s SO much easier than frying, and no burns on the arms from splatters!
Coat it with brown sugar and a little bit of cayanne pepper first to make pig candy.
This is how I make bacon most of the time because it can also be the least wasteful way of making bacon. No need for foil bacon grease keeps them from sticking and clean up is still super easy.
I think you can get bacon the crispiest by doing it this way.
I use my baking stones to make bacon in the oven, and sausage too. I’ll never stovetop either one again.

I just learned this trick a few months ago and I’m SO glad I did! I’ll admit, I love bacon (more than I should) but would rarely make it because of how messy it was and how it would smell up my whole house and get grease all over. So when I learned this, I was in heaven!! And I honestly think it’s crispier and turns out better than if it were done on the stovetop or microwave!
I love this. Admittedly, I don’t make bacon often but I cooked it in a pan last week – I had to keep stopping to dump the grease out. I’ll try this next time for sure.
(And bacon is AWESOME in maple syrup – the ONLY thing I put syrup on is bacon. Yummmmmmmmmo).
If you want your bacon to be a little crispier and a little less fatty place it on a wire rack on top of the lined cookie sheet. All the fat drips off the bacon onto the cookie sheet.

I have been cooking bacon like this for a few years. I make one additional step though. After lining the sheet pan with foil I place a cooling rack (like the one you cool cakes etc. on). I place the bacon on the rack and can fit about 9 pieces. I bake for about 10 minutes for thin slices and about 12-15 for thick slices on 400 degrees. The rack makes the bacon healthier (lol) since it isn’t sitting in the grease. I often do make the entire package and leave the leftovers in a bag in refrigerator.
Clean up is extra special: wrap grease in the foil and throw that away – sheet pan needs to just be put away because it stays clean and rack quickly washed.
