When my Granny moved out of her house I inherited her black and white speckled card box with all her recipe cards. Most of them handwritten, some of them typed, all of them a part of my childhood and family’s history.
When I got them home I realized that they were out of order and that being jammed into this recipe box wasn’t doing them any favors or helping me to preserve them.
The deciding blow was dealt the day my 4 year old got his hands on them and dumped the entire box out on the floor.
That day I went to the store and bought two 3 ring photo albums, each with 300 4X6 photo capacity
That day I spent a few hours going through recipes, reminiscing, organizing into categories and preserving our family’s edible history.
Now, I can find the recipes easily, they’re protected in their plastic sleeves and I don’t worry if the kids want to look at Granny’s writing or try their hand at deciphering the *old time* script.
As an added bonus, the books stand up for easy referencing while I cook.
How do you organize your family recipes?
